Give Up Meat and Dairy, Not Starch!

In their book The Starch Solution: Eat the Foods you Love, Regain Your Health, and Lose the Weight for Good!, John A. McDougall and his wife, Mary, prove that a starch-rich diet can actually help you lose weight, prevent illness, and cure common diseases.

I love The Starch Solution! There is so much great information in this book. It is one of the great ones, and will help you on your journey to healthy plant-based living. You will no longer feel you need to avoid some of the foods you love like potatoes, rice, and corn. You will learn that it is not these foods making you gain weight. In The Starch Solution, the McDougalls ask why, in countries where starches are their staple food, are the people so trim and strong, like in Peru. That should make us all think and wonder why so many people in the U.S. are overweight and are on diets that restrict starches or tell us to give up starches entirely.

Get the Poisons out of Your Diet

Reducing or eliminating the animal foods in your diet immediately relieves the burden on your body from these five dietary poisons all found in meat: excessive protein, fat, cholesterol, methionine, and dietary acid, at the same time greatly reduces your risk of exposure to infectious bacteria, viruses, parasites, and prion diseases (like those that cause mad cow disease.) The best way to cut out these toxic foods is to replace them with whole grains, legumes, and starchy vegetables—foods that provide all of the nutrition you need, along with sufficient calories and substance to give you energy and keep you feeling satisfied.

Government Suggestions vs. The Starch Solution Suggestions

Even though school lunches are getting better, they still include meat and dairy. And, although the portions are smaller, the government still recommends portions of meat and dairy should be part of a healthy diet. The Starch Solution recommends 70% starch, 20% vegetables, 10% fruit, and ZERO% meat and dairy.

What are starch foods?

  • Grains: Rice, oats, barley, millet, corn
  • Legumes: Beans, lentils, peas
  • Starchy Vegetables: Potatoes, squashes, sweet potatoes, carrots

These foods help your body feel satisfied. They fill you up!

(Corn, tomatoes, and green beans purchased at Risser-Marvel Farm Market, outside of Campbelltown, PA on Route 322. A lot of people in Pennsylvania think Risser's corn on the cob is the best they've ever eaten!)
